When Luul arrived in Sheffield, she faced an overwhelming array of challenges. As a single mother of six, she was determined to support her children, yet had no job, lacked English language skills and was unfamiliar with British culture.

Tailored employability training, cultural acclimatisation and confidence building support from Infinite Skills, an Opportunity Sheffield partner, proved invaluable to Luul. It enabled her to be proactively look for jobs in her areas of interest and attend interviews.

She also found new ways to engage with and give back to her community, using the skills she had acquired in volunteering roles. In September 2024, Luul started work at the Israac Centre where she is now the Kitchen Coordinator, responsible for ensuring daily operations run smoothly, efficiently and safely.

Luul's hard work and determination was recently recognised when she won ‘The Return to Adult Learning Award’ from Sheffield City Council’s Lifelong Learning and Skills Service, presented to her by the Deputy Lord Mayor in Sheffield Town Hall.
