Case study: Corey's story

When Corey left prison, he faced the daunting task of starting over. Roundabout Homeless Charity provided him with supported accommodation, giving him a safe place to stay while he focused on finding work and regaining independence.
Motivated to secure a good job, Corey completed qualifications in retail, customer service, and IT user skills through PET Xi Training. He briefly worked in a self-employed marketing role but soon realised it wasn’t the right fit.
Roundabout referred Corey to a progression coach at Depaul UK, an Opportunity Sheffield partner, for intensive employment support. This helped him reflect on his strengths, update his CV and build confidence in applying for jobs. After several interviews, Corey secured a Warehouse Operative role in September 2024.
To ensure he could start work, Depaul funded his workwear, bus passes and groceries until his first pay cheque. Corey remains in work and is now actively looking to move into his own home. He’s optimistic about his future and hopes to progress into a retail career.
